So DH had his first urologist appt. today and it appears that anatomically everything is where it should be and it doesn't look like an obstruction. They did blood work to see if it's a hormonal thing, which according to DH it sounds like the Dr. is thinking it is. He said his testicles are slightly smaller than normal and he may have a small variocele. I think the testicle size is why he's thinking hormal, but I'm not sure. According to DH it sounds like if it is hormonal it's either treatable with Clomid or it means he doesn't/can't produce sperm. He gave us 50/50 odds, so it's a coin toss. I'm hoping we find out the results of the blood work soon, like tomorrow, but I will update again when we get any more information. Did any of your DH's go through this or have similar sounding stories? I know there aren't many regular posters here, but hopefully somebody's DH is going through something similar!

That's pretty much how our appt went - with the physical exam not revealing any immediate problems, and the doc said the same thing about DH's testicles & possible small varicole. So the doc ordered bloodwork before any additional testing, and we met back with the urologist after the results came back in. Not to scare you, but in our case, it did come back as genetic. Further testing revealed DH is completely infertile. I'm keeping all my crossables crossed that you get much better results with your DH. (and if not, I'm here if you need to talk, vent, cry, etc.) When will you get the blood test results? I hope not too long.

It sounds like a productive appt - I hope you get the results soon.

With my DH, everything went great with the urologist - no blockages - everything was normal.. He got all the bloodwork done as well - and there's nothing genetically/hormonally wrong at all... So his infertility is completely unexplained... After 6 months of being on Clomid his postwash numbers raised from 357,000 to 2million - so Clomid does help...

Good Luck!

Well,
the first thing we had done was the SA which showed 1 non-motile sperm. They repeated this 3 weeks later, and again, 1 non-motile sperm. Then all blood work came back normal, and MRI showed a cyst in the prostate blocking the ejaculatory ducts, then a subsequent Ultrasound showed absence of the seminal vesicles. So, now sperm must be aspirated from the testicle, and we have to do IVF with ICSI.

Bloodwork results are back and everything is normal, so they said the chances of DH having sperm are really good! I guess the next step is he is going in Dec. for aspiration and we need to find an IVF doctor!

The aspiration is to get the sperm out, but of course DH doesn't remember if the dr said anything about how they're gonna do that and he didn't think to ask. I guess I will be going to the next appt. for sure!!

Yay!!! I'm so happy all the results came back & there's a great chance of DH having spermies. I'm not sure if the aspiration is similar to what my DH went thru, but with him they decided to look for spermies and biopsied his testicles. Ouch!! They gave him an option of being put to sleep and doing this at the hospital or having it done at the doc's office. He chose to stay awake. Afterwards he was in pain for a few days, and we found that rotating ice packs out of the freezer helped lots. Hopefully the aspiration is less painful. Good luck finding a RE!!! December isn't that far away.

Thanks ladies!! I am sooo happy now, I was starting to get really sad about ttc. I got an appt. with an RE at a really good IVF Center in Chicago for Nov. 9 and we are taking every result from every test we've ever had done on either of us lol. They are going to do an ultrasound on me the day we go and they have a urologist who will work with Adam on finding out why the spermies aren't coming out and will do the aspiration. The nurse today said it is still possible for us to do IVF in Dec. assuming everything goes well with Adam and I!! So I am crossing my fingers we will be starting the IVF process in Dec!! Dec. 13th would be the egg retrieval day if we get to, so I may be preggo by Christmas!!

April, when your DH took the Clomid did any any sperm show up in a s/a or were the postwash numbers you talked about from aspiration?

well, my hubby had zero sperm. a week later he had three. we went to a male fertility doc said he had a varicole it was a huge dialted vein that he could see and feel. he had the surgery two years ago this january.. I am beginning to wonder what eles is up. he says his sperm is thick and white.. so i am guess that is normal? We have not been back for the past 6 months.

Babylove I think that the semen being thick and white initially is normal, it liquefies after about 20 minutes. Have you had a s/a done recently? I don't know, I would think 2 years after the surgery, if it worked, there would be sperm in the s/a by now, and maybe the surgery helped, but not enough are coming out to get the job done. I guess I would just go back to the urologist and see if they will find out what's going on and if they won't I'd find someplace that will. Good luck!!
