Hi girls, my name is Heather and I am 34, DH is 38. We were given the heartbreaking news about male infertility about 5 months ago. We have been to see an RE 2 months ago and determined that husband is unable to produce sperm. We can not afford IVF treatments so we are going with donor sperm and IUI. We have an appointment Jan 20 to get the sperm ordered and get started on the whens and whats of it all. My DH has recently been very supportive. We both want a child. And this is the only way we can afford. HAve any of you gone through this or have any advice as we begin our journey? I am nervous but very excited about the possibility that I could be a mom this time next year. : )

Hi, Heather!! I completely know what you're going through. We discovered my DH had no spermies last year, and we're currently pg now from IUI using donor sperm. We are both so thrilled, and cannot wait to meet our little boy. There are alot of emotions that will run through both you & your DH during this process, and it's hard to even explain them out in a post.

As far as the process, for us choosing the donor was very hard & time consuming. In our case, we wanted to try to match my DH's ethnicity (the Greek side) and we discovered there were very few Greek donors or even Mediterranean donors so that took some time. We went with a smaller bank then some of the big name ones you hear about most, but are very satisfied with our choice of banks and the donor we chose. After our choice was set up, we had to have our doctor complete some paperwork to include with our paperwork with the bank and an account was set up. Once you're ready to begin your cycle, it's like a typical IUI, but in this case you order the sperm to be delivered when your RE requests it. Mine would have me order it after my CD3 b/w & u/s to make sure the cycle was a go. In our case, my body responded fast to clomid and we triggered on CD10 with IUIs on CD11 and CD12. We were successful the 2nd cycle.

Good luck at your Jan 20th appt and please keep me posted. PM me if I can help in any way!!!

Thanks so much for posting. We have an appointment WEdnesday. I am really excited. We have picked the donor we want. The RE we go to uses California Cryo. So we have gone online and looked at the possibilities keeping it as close to DH as possible. So I guess as we enter into the process I will have more questions. I am waiting on AF now. I hope to get good news in Feb. Thanks again and I will definitely be talking to you soon! : )
