My husband has suffered bad asthma all his life and a doctor once told him that certain steroid medications he took when younger may contribute to fertility problems. He has never been tested for any such problem, but it may be time now. As far as I know I am healthy. I have a normal period every month and have never suffered from any problems. I wonder if it is him, or if I'm just to impatient. It has been a year! Has anyone else heard of asthma medication causing this?

I was just thinking the very same thing! I haven't been trying as long as you have to get pregnant, but it's been several months and I too have a regular period. My husband has been on inhalers and all sorts of asthma and allergy medications for his entire life... I am so worried that it has effected his sperm and I don't even want to know how it will make him feel if it has. We are going to get a sperm evaluation if we do not get pregnant again this month. I'm feeling so anxious.

Hello Ladies!! I'm Keri- the new host of this board.

I have never heard of such a thing but it would definitely be something to look in to. I would recommend a semen analysis for the both of your DHs and maybe some blood work. Those two things can tell a lot about what is or isn't wrong.

Good luck to the both of you. I hope that other ladies on this board can help you. Keep us posted!!

Hello and welcome WannaB3Mommy and Keri! I hope that the long term use of asthma medications have not caused a fertility problem, but I am not sure. I am going to give it a little more time myself. If your husband goes for test please come back to this post and let us know what you discovered, and if the doctor feels that the long term medication use caused the problem. I will do the same if we have resort to that.

We have not talked with any doctors yet. We will probably give it a little more time before we resort to that. I have not researched it as much as I probably should. Over the next couple of days I will try to research it and see what I come up with. If I find out any information on it I will definitely come back and I post what I learned.

I am waiting for one more month before we do the semen analysis. Quite frankly I am worried that if the doc tells my DH he has a fertility problem that it will crush him. This is horrible... I feel like a failure if I don't get pregnant and I feel like I'm failing my DH.

It is nice to be able to talk about i though... thanks ladies

Thank you for posting this link. My husband has not used anything on that list past or present and I did not see any asthma medications on it. That's great!!! Hopefully that is one possibility that we can eliminate!

If you are anything like me you are over-thinking EVERYTHING Until I actually get pregnant I feel like I will be obsessed with searching and researching everything there is to know about pregnancy, fertility and health. I don't know how else to deal with the anxiety.
