We want to try donor sperm, but we don't have any money to pay for the infertility consult plus the in office AI.

Has anyone got their Dr to sign off on sperm donation for a at home insemination?

My plan is to use clomid and then Progesterone both of which I have prescriptions for. I figure I should do anything to boost my chances...

I don't have experience with AI, but my friend and her partner conceived both their children with AI. I will call her and ask her about the details. Good luck!

How would that work? Donor sperm is usually frozen, and you need an andrology lab to thaw it properly... and then you have a VERY limited time frame in which to use it after thawing. So I don't really understand how it would work to use donor sperm at home. I don't think you can even get fresh donor sperm, because sperm banks have to hang on to it for at least 6 months while they test for infectious diseases. Or is the donor someone you know, who would donate on the spot for you?

I found this online. My friend is in a same sex marriage, and they have done it at home, but I don't know the details.

Good luck! KUP!

Due to wanting more monitoring & having a few other risk factors that other couples may not be dealing with, DH & I ended up choosing to use a RE for our donor sperm IUIs, but we did look into home inseminations as well. It can be done, and many of the banks will also send you information on it, instructions for thawing and prepping the spermies, as well as give great advice & suggestions for doing home inseminations. Most of the banks did seem to want a doctor's authorization though, so I'm not sure how easy or difficult that is to obtain. I belong to another online group consisting of ladies who used the bank DH & I ended up using, and many of them do home inseminations frequently and they all were able to get doctor's sign offs for authorization and so many of them have had successful pregnancies. So it CAN be done, and just takes a little more upfront research on your part. I also suggest researching several different banks before making your decision on which one to use. We ended up using a smaller bank, instead of one of the larger ones and were very happy with the service received. Good luck & keep us posted!!!

I have heard of doing donor insemination at home. as long as your not trying IUI at home its completely safe and many many women have done AI at home.
here is a site I found that explains it well At-Home Insemination Instructions - Fertility Plus.
Anyone do at home insemination with donor sperm? - Fertile Thoughts

many donor sperm banks will insist on shipping the DS to your doctor , with this site you choose the donor and they will ship the donor sperm to your house, I hear only good things about this sperm bank. California Cryobank
