Hi, I'm Pammie and I've just got back from the fertility clinic with DH's sperm analysis.
I've been TTC my second child for 11months(same partner). Our beautiful little girl (who is 2) was conceived naturally on the firstmonth of trying.Sickening,I know! In the 11months we've been TTC #2, I've also been pregnant, but had a misscarriage at 11 weeks.
Anyway, because I'm 35 years old, and it's been 6 months since my mc, I went to a private fertility clinic. I was sure I wasn't going to have much ovarian reserve, and may need clomid or something. I guess I was also perplexed as we'd got pregnant so easily with dd.
So it turns out (which we DIDN'T expect) that I've got good ovarian reserve (AMH and follicle) but DH sperm count was 5 million and his morphology etc was 50% of what it should be.Now I'm confused.
So we've been pregnant twice (all be it only one child),and he's got a low sperm count. Could it be because he had a bad chest infection about 3 weeks earlier? We hadn't had sex (and he hadn't you know what) for 12 days before his sample (we hadn't read the instructions until the night before, and I wasn't fertile in those 12 days...the joys of TTC!), so could that have affected it?
Help! They're going to do a second analysis and maybe recommend ICSI!
Thanks ladies!

Hi Pammie, I'm Christy and DH is Clayton. We have a IVF/ICSI miracle (Brianna). Just about everything can affect the sperm count. I think him being sick, and not having drained the pipes for almost two weeks (pardon the crude statement), can decrease his count. I don't know by how much, but a second analysis is a great idea. If his count is low, there are several supplements that have been shown to help improve count and morphology. Good luck, and welcome to the board!!

Hi! Welcome to the board!

I would def have them do at least one more s/a. With all of the things you listed anything could be possible and since you've been pregnant a couple times I would kinda wonder if this low count was a fluke, but def KUP with the results from future tests!

hi, we were told that the sample had to be done with about three days "storage" Any longer than this an the sperm can get old and a bit rubbish, any shorter than this and the stocks aren't always replenished!

We we told to TTC every two/three days to keep a constant supply of fresh sperm without DTD too often because that can also affect counts, because it needs to be replaced, but that may be because our count is low and it takes a little longer to get back up to normal if you KWIM? I assume the same with doing samples. I'd get retested and ask you doc what the recommend abstinence time is for optimum count.

Hi Pammie!! Im Keri (Host) and DH is Mike. We are finally 7 weeks pregnant with our first after trying for 14 months. DH had a 7 million count and although his was due to diet and low nutrients, we did conceive on our own.
I do believe that sperm will diminish the longer you keep it in the pipes. I have heard that the longer the sperm is in there, they start to die and the sperm that die will then release a toxin and start to kill the other sperm. Pretty brutal I know....So I'm hoping for you sake, that's why your DH had such a low count.
Please keep us posted on the next sperm test!! I have my fingers crossed for you both!
