Hi Everyone-
I had my first IUI with clomid this morning and I was shocked when my husbands numbers came back today!

He had a SA done 2 months ago when we started this process and he had volume 3, count was 44mil (total 132mill) and motility was 78%. Morphology was only 9% WHO standards. RE said that wasn't a problem because of his high count and motility.

Today the numbers were volume 1.5, count was 22mill and motility was 10%! How can it be THAT different? The washed sample had 1.2 million which is really low for IUI.

I just don't understand how the two analysis can be sooo different. I am worried that it wasn't even his although I read the vial and paperwork to confirm that it was his. How can motility go from 78% to 10%? Is that even possible. The nurse asked if he has been sick and he does have a slight cold and a cold sore. He worked a midnight shift last night and stayed up to produce this morning so he was awake for 24 hours. Could this have done it?

As for the procedure it was no big deal. I am spotting a little which I hope is normal!

I have 2 kids with my husband and had a blighted ovum last may so I know we can conceive.

Anyone have similar expreience with sperm counts being so drastically different?

Hey huh!!

I'm so sorry about your DHs counts! BUT- as stupid as it sounds-- IT ONLY TAKES ONE LITTLE SPERM to do the job!!! (Thats what I kept telling myself) Last check, my DH had a 7million count and 5% motility, which is suuper duper low.
Just don't give up girl!!! Is your DH on any vitamins or meds right now? And I do think that mabye him staying up for 24 hours hindered his count. His body was exhausted and i'm sure it made his 'guys' tired too.
If this one doesnt work, do you plan on doing another IUI next cycle? Make sure DH is on LOTS of Zinc and Vitamin C okay?
Keep you chin up darling..like I said- It only takes one- so I think you still have a chance!!

Well try not to get too stressed over this one bad count. I recently learned that mens sperm count can fluctuate greatly even from week to week. the common cold, any sort of infection. drinking , sitting in a hot tub all of these things can effect the sperm count. and I have heard success storys of IUI with a count as low as 1 million. with IUI its such a short distant they need to travel to the egg. so try not to stress.

. The chart above shows sperm counts for one man taken every two weeks over two years. As you can see his sperm counts varied widely.
The dashed line represents twenty (20) million sperm per milliliter. This is often cited as the cutoff level for normal fertility. If he had only one or two semen analysis at any of several low points he would have believed that he was infertile. In fact, on average, his sperm counts are quite good. Many things can affect a man's fertility.
Motility varies over time – If a man has a fever or sits in a hot tub his sperm counts may not change much but his motility can go to zero for the two or three months it takes for the dead sperm to clear and be replaced by healthy sperm.
