Hi all my name is Lynda and my DH and I have been ttc for over 2 years now. We have had 4 miscarriages. Recently we have decided to seek the help of an RE. My next appt is Wednesday. We have had all the testing done and all is fine with me.

We got the results of the sperm analysis back yesterday.

They told me the count is awesome, but there is one concern the motility is 1% which i guess means they don't move. Now I find that hard to believe since i've been pregnant 4x (miscarried all) so they must move somewhat...
The nurse told me to discuss these results with my RE next Wednesday. can anyone provide any other information on sperm you might know? I tried googling it, but i got all sorts of crap that was useless.

My DH told me we better start saving our cash for IVF. I felt so bad for him. The ladies at TTC after a loss, suggested I come here, as you all are loads of knowledge! I would greatly appreciate any help!!!

Hi Lynda!! I'm sorry to see you over here, but welcome to the board!

I don't know a whole lot about the numbers, you know my story, but I know that our host recently got her BFP using instead cups and I think they were told they had a very small chance of conceiving on their own. Maybe the instead cups would help keep the swimmers up there to give them the best shot possible. I got some at Walgreens, but you can also order them online. Also, I would recommend vitamins if DH isn't on them already. Good luck with everything and I hope you stick around over here! KUP

hey girl!!! thanks for responding!!! so many of us frequent the same forums here!! it's nice to see a familiar face!!! how are you doing?

DH is indeed on loads of fertility vitamins and supplements so I think that is good. I have tried instead cups and didn't like them. but again i'm confused because I don't have a problem getting pregnant, my problem is staying pregnant. So the spermies must be getting where they need to get if i'm getting pregnant? right? wrong?

this can all be so overwhelming!! glad to see you again hun!!!

Hey Lynda Sorry you had to come over here

I agree with adamsgirl....maybe try preseed and instead cups. I know our host had a 1% chance of conceiving on their own but they did it! I'm with you though, I HATED the instead cups so we don't use them anymore. Plus my doctor said its un-necessary to lay around for 15 minutes after BD. I'm glad to hear your DH is on some vitamins. Mine has been taking his for about 3 1/2-4 months now and we are getting ready to do an IUI so we'll see what his new numbers are.

That is weird that your DH has such a low motility rate but you keep getting pregnant? I wonder if they can give you any explanation for that?

We had the same problem count was low not too horrible but only 8 % were moving.
There are things which can be done to improve motility , first make sure he is in good health no infections or virus because this is the biggest cause of poor motility. secondly make sure he is not getting too warm this makes them slow also. you say you have been pregnant 4 times by him?. so I wonder if it could have been a lab error. believe it or not this does happen. you really need to have more then one SA to determine MFI. preferably 3-4 done .
so tell him all is not loss,

. we have been pregnant once and I M/C at 5 weeks. we have been unsuccessful sence then.

hey sari, thanks for the response. i will be asking the RE for an explanation next week!!!

lisa, I'm so sorry for your loss!!!! and yes I have heard of lab errors in SA too. So i'm not totally worried about it. I would have freaked out if his count was low, but they said it was great. So as long as we have sperm, there is hope!!! thanks for the response! I hope you get your sticky bfp very very soon!!!! and me tooooo!!!

hello! Often they'll do a retest to confirm a bad result. There are things that can be done to improve motility and other things. I'd recommend getting a good fertility blend multi vitamin. We use Vitabiotics Wellman Conception. It has all the things in it that are reputed to help count and motility.

Our first SA results we bad:
14 million per ml
7% morphology
43% motility
44.8 million overall count

After 8 weeks on vitamins, the second SA was better
17 million per ml
7% morphology
53% motility
54.4 million overall

Also DH stopped smoking, cut down the drinking. No more hot baths and no tight undies! Every little thing can help!

thanks so much for the post. he takes a fertility vitamin daily and he doesn't smoke or drink. not hot tubs foresure and he wears boxers. i don't think there is anyway we could get pregnant 4x if his motility is 1% truly! can't wait to talk to RE next week!!! thanks again

KUP on what the RE says Lynda. It does seem odd that motility would be that low and you would have gotten pg 4 times. I don't know if there is an explanation, but if your RE has one I'm very interested in what it could be besides lab error or just a bad s/a. Was the morphology ok?

Hey Ladies-
Sorry Im so late at replying to this. I am Keri- host of the board. As Adamsgirl explained- we got our BFP after being told that we wouldn't get one due to my hubbys low sperm count AND motility. He had a 7 million count and a 4-5% motility rate- which obviously means that only 4-5% of the little guys were moving.
Hubby quit smoking and drinking and took multivites with zinc as our RE recommended and we used the instead cups. We got preg the first time using those after TTC for 14 cycles.
As far as I have heard lately about sperm counts- Alot has to do with diet and energy of the man at THE TIME of the test. One member on here once had a hubby with a super high sperm count, tested a 2nd time but after staying up like 24 hours--tested super low. THEN tested a 3rd time and it was high again. So It was almost like his little guys were tired or something!!
Anyways- your scenario sounds like you and hubby make babies perfectly but they just don't stay put. My sister had a 'blood clotting' disorder which caused 4 M/C for her- they put her on some medication AS SOON as she found out she was pregnant and the blood clots stayed away. So maybe ask your RE about something along those lines.
I wish you TONS of luck and hope you find some answers soon!
