We are doing IUI next month!!
DH and I talked about everything to do with using donor sperm and we decided to do it! I wasn't really sad when I heard the result was still 0, I guess I kind of expected it and had already come to terms with it, I think DH was bummed, but not nearly like the biopsy when we left thinking he had 0 sperm. I went to bed feeling like a weight was lifted, we actually spent time online looking at baby stuff and talking about the nursery. It was the first time in a long time that talking about ttc has been a happy conversation, not a big dark unknown. Its sad to think the baby won't be DH's biologically, but there is so much that is environmental, and not all genetic, that I think we will still be able to see DH in our baby. We have our choices narrowed to 4 and we are going to show DH's mom and have her help pick the one that looks closest to DH as a baby.
I called our RE and we are officially in for next cycle. They are going to let me take Clomid to hopefully increase our chances of pregnancy (and maybe we'll get twins out of it!) and an HCG trigger so we know our timing is right. Lets hope we are truly only dealing with MFI and it works right away!

WOOO!!!! That is SOO exciting!! I was hoping you wouldn't let your TTC guard down and have the 0 count end your journey- So I am SOO happy that you have decided to still make a beautiful family together!! Can't wait to hear updates!

the donor sperm is going to be about $1000 for 1 vial, if we decide to get 2 vials at a time it'll be about an addt $520 depending on which donor we go with plus the storage. The actual IUI will be only $40-60 plus the HCG trigger, which should be maybe $30 at the most. We already have the Clomid from DH. It's the donor sperm that will be the most expensive part of this! Thanks I hope this works too!!

Good luck Aimee!! As you know, we used donor sperm to conceive our little boy, so if you have questions or just need to talk, please contact me.
and with DH, there's no doubt that this is HIS son, regardless of genetics. He loves this little guy so much.

Thanks girls! I am feeling really good about this! I know this will make us parents!
I'm gonna meet with my mother-in-law tomorrow and look at baby pics of DH and compare them to the pics from the sperm bank. Hopefully we can find something really close!

Congrats! Where are you getting the donor sperm from? $1000 seems like a lot for a vial... we bought ours years ago, but I remember it being something like $400 per vial or something like that.
It really is relieving to finally have a new ttc path that gives you hope. We were dealing with pretty severe MFI (not quite zero sperm, but very few, and the morphology and motility were messed up too), and when we finally switched to using a donor, it was like this huge weight just lifted from us both. I knew that now we REALLY had a chance of getting pg, we were dealing with a totally healthy donor, and DH was actually more comfortable because he could finally stop feeling guilty about our ttc problems and just relax and enjoy the process. We got pg on our 2nd IUI, and that was 3 yrs ago with our son. This time around, we also got pg on our 2nd IUI (I'm currently 12 wks pg). So don't get discouraged if it doesn't work the FIRST time, but just know that it probably IS going to work, and you'll have your family soon. It's such a great feeling to be moving forward, and I wish you the best of luck!!!!

we're going through fairfax cryobank and depending on which donor we go with a vial will cost anywhere between 375 and 565, shipping will be 170 unless we have to get it shipped next day then it will be 220 ( I think). So I guess 1000 was a pretty rough estimate, but thats from DH and he likes to be a little dramatic with the cost of things lol.

This is a funny coincidence - we also got pg on our 2nd IUI attempt.
DH & I thought of using Fairfax, but ended up using another bank instead. We were looking for a donor with Greek ethnicity, which was VERY hard to find and finally located one at a smaller bank. Fairfax has a great reputation.

Good Luck..I really hope the IUI works for you. I am getting ready to do an IUI as well. My insurance will only cover 1 IUI per year so if DH's sperm count is too low we won't be able to do it next month. Keep Us Posted!
