When we were TTC #1, we tried for about 5 months and I actually got one of those at-home male fertility tests. It was very hard to read and from what we could see it looked like it was a little low but we were't sure if we had done it right...it was pretty much a waste of $$. I went my OB/GYN shortly after that and she ordered some bloodwork for me and a SA for DH. He was going to do the SA as soon as AF showed...well AF never showed because I was pregnant

! I will always be curious what the results would have been at that time. We'll never know if DH's counts have gone down since then b/c of his varicocele or if they were always super low and we just got lucky!
When TTC #2, I read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility and it says to get your DH tested after only 4-6 cycles of well-timed BDing confirmed by charting. I had a bad gut feeling very early on in TTC that something was really wrong and this would be a loooong journey. DH and I both agreed it was something we should get done. He did the SA after 6 cycles of no luck. I'm glad we did it as soon as we did, b/c now we know what is going on and can work toward possible solutions.
