Question about low sperm count

Since my SO and I are not actively ttc, he hasn't had an SA yet, so we don't know numbers or anything. But (and I appologize if this is way tmi) for those of you whose SO's have low numbers, does their ejaculate look different? I mean, in terms of color/consistency/volume?
Sorry, but I'm trying to get an idea if me and my finace have any hope of getting pregnant in the future.

Also, what type of doctor would he see to get an SA?

Before my hubby quit smoking and drinking and when he had low sperm count- his sperm was more on the yellow-ish side. It also wasn't 'thick'- it was very watery.

Now that he has quit smoking and cut his alcohol down AND added vitamins-- its white and thick. (sorry if thats TMI but wanted to give her a good answer)

You should have DH see a urologist-- those docs are specific for male and anything to do with their penis! Although my hubby got his SA done through our RE (reproductive endocrinologist)

Thanks for the info. My fiance's ejactulate is basically clear, which worries me a lot.

As for you KatieBeth--- clear ejaculate worries me too. I mean...it could be okay but usually ejaculation shouldn't be 'so' clear.
When hubby did his first SA, his semen liquefied pretty fast. Meaning (again TMI) when it came out it was chunky and watery...but with in seconds- it became yellow-ish clear liqud---which the tech said 'wasn't good'. He explained SEMEN is the 'watery' part of ejaculation and the SPERM is the thicker, white part. So if hubby is producing more 'watery ejaculations'-- it has more semen then actual SPERM.....

------YOUR HOMEWORK FOR TONIGHT~ Try analyzing your hubbys ejaculation- 'secretly'- and see if its more thick or watery...and what color..... Then as time goes on, evaluate it periodically so you can see if there is any changes.

My hubby was very "open" to me analyzing his semen..thank goodness.....So I was able to see the pattern of his sperm getting better. Even now and even though Im pregnant, we 'examine' his sperm cause we're 'proud' on how much better it has gotten....

Don't worry too much about what your man's semen looks like. I have been with more than one man in my life (Ill leave it at that) and some men have thicker semen, some more watery, some more white, some very clear. and sometimes it will vary based on how often he is ejaculating. So this should be no indication of his sperm count.

Thank you Nicole. That's incredibly reassuring. I'm going to ask my SO to see a urologist to get an SA anyways I think. Just to know what we're facing, and to find out what our options are.

My GP did up the req for my DH to get his SA done so I don't know if you even have to see a specialist. But of course, different procedures for different places
