Well, DH had his 3 month post-op varicocele repair SA today. Things have improved, still not normal yet but much better

In June his results were:

3.2 million/ml with 36% motility, Grade 2 speed of motility and 11.2 million total sperm.

Today his results were:

12.8 million/ml with 50% motility, Grade 3 speed of motility and 48.6 million total sperm.

Anyway, DH's doctor was pleased with the results and hopes things continue to improve. It's been 3 months since the surgery and sometimes it takes 6-12 months to see the full effects of the surgery. At any rate, we are IUI candidates now and that wasn't really an option before. I guess between the surgery and the gobs of vitamins DH is taking, something is working

On the down side, we just found out today that my FSH is elevated (12.5..should be less than 10) ....which is weird since I have regular cycles and I'm only 26. I had more blood drawn today to look into it further. My doctor thinks it may be a fluke b/c I ovulate regularly, have regular cycles, etc. We'll see.

This is great news! 48.6 million for the whole ejaculate is actually normal, anything above 40 million is...12.8 is still a little lower then the 20 million per ml they like to see but still, this is great improvement, motility is nearly normal and grade 3 is good too...it can only continue to get better...I hope you get your BFP really soon and I hope the elevated FSH is just a fluke.

The SA results sound good!! I hope they only continue to get better for you!

As for the FSH, I hope it was a fluke and if not I hope that knowing about it will only help you get pg that much faster. Have you guys done any Clomid cycles? I don't know that Clomid would help if your FSH was truly high, but maybe it would be something to try in the meantime while you're waiting to find out.

We haven't tried clomid yet. We'll see what my RE says now, but my 7DPO progesterone when I had it checked a couple of cycles ago was 19 on a natural cycle...so it's not like I'm having trouble ovulating. We'll see, though.

I took Clomid for our IUI cycle and I ovulate regularly, it was days 3-7 and just to ensure that a mature egg was going to be released. Maybe clomid could help make sure the best egg is there waiting, not necessarily more eggs, just a ready to go egg

I don't know a whole lot about high FSH, but if it is an egg reserve issue Clomid could help to ensure the egg released is a good one.

Congrats on your great news, and I think you may be in store for some even better results in another 3 months. MY DH had his varicocele repair last week and his surgeon said that most likely, the benefits don't show for 6-12 months.

We were told the same thing, so we were kind of surprised how much things had improved already

I think some of it can probably be attributed to his vitamin regimine, but the surgery probably helped some as well.
