I just had my 1st IUI this morning....DH had an initial SA done over a year ago, if I remember correctly his count then was closer to 50 mil. TODAY however, the count pre-wash was only 22 million & post-wash just 11 million. Immediately when the nurse told me, my heart sank. Please give me your honest thoughts on what you think ............................ if my memory is correct, I thought I remember the cut-off for doing IUI was about 10 million, so its not great, is it ?!

Hi! Actually the cutoff for IUI is usually 10 million motile sperm PRE-wash, so your DH's is pretty good, as long as the motility is ok. My DH's latest is only 12 million/ml but with a total of 48 million sperm altogether and 24 million motile sperm, and my doctor said we are good candidates for IUI.

Try not to worry Sperm counts can fluctuate A LOT from day to day and month to month. I would try to have your DH take some vitamins to improve things, but it sounds like IUI is a great option for you. I have seen a lot of people have success with IUI with numbers like that. I really hope the first one works for you! We are going to be doing one at the end of January.

Actually 11 million post wash isn't bad, the minimum for IUI is 3-5 million post wash...so 11 million post is pretty decent, like mentioned above, the motility of those 11 million would be most important, did they tell you what that was? Hope you get your BFP this cycle!

Motility was 46% I think or 48% ?? The nurse is a pretty laid back, cool, calm & collected older woman. She said it was pretty normal. Hmmmm ??!! I dont know what the cut-off is but I'm driving myself batty by googling all afternoon !!!!!!!!!!!! I just need to quit, think positive and let the big man be in control now

I know, it has to be difficult to relax after IUI, I'd be the same way, but if its in his will, it will happen no matter what the numbers! The cut off is usually 10 million pre wash and 3-5 million post....but technically there is no cut off, I've seen docs perform it on people who's counts are less then 1 million post wash, they just assure you the chances are low for conception, they just like to see the count at least 3-5 million post wash.

Ive heard that about 5million post wash is normal too...so i just wanted to throw that in there..these girls have given good advice! Hang in there sweetie..dont lose hope!!

So our RE's office has all electronic records where we can access and I found this today, with our test done yesterday at my IUI

The most abnormal appears to be Total Motile, normal value >39
