Hello,

My DH SA came back today. Normal Count, Normal Motility, but ABNORMAL Morphology.

He is 31 and I am 41 so looks like we have a serious up hill battle

He eats healthy, never has done drugs, hardly drinks, super active (and hot I may add) so I am not sure how this has happened?

Cell phone in front pocket of the last 10-15 years perhaps?

HELP!!! Anyone in the same boat that has some advice?

Gretchen

Unfortunately it happens. Make sure he's wearing loose boxers staying out of hot tubs, not taking hot showers, etc. He could have a variocle in his testicles.

My DH has low morphology too and it's pretty bad. The only thing that I've found that they say you can take for morph is Pycnocenol. My husband takes it and says that it helps with other things too.

Good luck! If his count is high enough, it might not be that bad with everything else looking good. What was his morph percentage?

Thank you for responding. DH isn't taking this very well at all. We go tomorrow to see the dr to review the SA test results so I'll have % numbers then.

With my old eggs and now this issue....it isn't looking promising for us. I am so sad.

Okay DH count was over 100 million... (after only a 48 hour wait), his motility was 73% His abnoraml morhology was only 12%.

He has an appointmen with a urologist (which is is not to excited about) to see if there is anything that can be done. From everything I am researching there isn't going to be anything.

Because of my age (41) and his morphology we may have to sip right to IVF..

This was my first month on Clomid, but I guess it probabaly wont do any good now that we have learned this about DH SA.

We also have our first appointment with RE on Tuesday. Has anyone else gotten pregnant with DH having less than 12% normal spermies?

(((Hugs))) I don't have any experience with morphology, so I'm just offering up some hugs!!

And with your age, I know that too can feel like an obstacle. If you feel up to it, since I know that when this hits you, you may just want to hide in a corner for a while instead of doing anything else, come join us on the TTC Older Members board, there are several ladies there in our age bracket that are TTC and/or currently pg.

Hello! i used to be on this board..been a while though..i wanted to say we had the EXACT issues..hubby had 0% morph (ALL abnormal) and since our ivf failed..they said i had bad eggies..well 6 months after the ivf failed we concieved and now have a 7 week old little girl..they gave us 1% chance of ever having a baby!! So while it seems daunting..hang in there (i know easier said then done) Big HUGS! and good luck!!

We have the same problem...well sort of...except our count is waaay low...and no tails!! The little boogers can't swim! Doc told us that our only hope is IVf. My DH had a vasectomy reversal in Jan. of this year. Very frustrating!! All it takes is one...one little swimmer and all we have are floaters! I guess we will sit and wait for the doc to call and start the IVf process.

Jessie0505 - you had time on your hands since you are young...
I, however, am 41 and time is not on our side. Your story still gives me plenty of hope though cause they haven't found anything wrong with me other then my age could mean my quality of eggs are low, but all my blood work comes back that my reserve and quality are fine.

So we went to the urologist yesterday and DH does have a Vericocele but nothing to bad and it doesn't even bother him. Urologist said that doing surgery helps count and motility, but not morphology. It is feeling pretty helpless for us. The Urologist even suggested sperm donor and as soon as he realized my age he said egg donor too? Really? I am so so sad. I've wanted my DH baby since the day I fell in love with him 10 years ago. We finally start trying and now I realize my dream may never happen. sniff sniff

ttart3 - looks like my DH spermies have tails but most of them have two heads. I would think with two heads they could make it in that eggie better, but I guess not.

So they swim great, but can't get through the egg. Looks like IVF with ICIS is the best option for both of us.

Good luck to you. I am sorry we are all going through this heartbreak.

There IS hope for you! My DH's SA came back with everything but morphology being totally normal. He has only 2% morphology and I prepared myself for the worst.

We tried for nearly two years and decided to take a break for the summer starting in June and agreed that we would get into acupuncture in September after enjoying our summer. I became pregnant naturally on July 5th (go figure!) and am now due with our 2nd baby on March 27th 2012.

Don't lose hope. If your test results came back healthy and he's healthy overall, it CAN happen! Good luck.

Hi! Morphology is kind of an obscure thing and there are different ways of measuring it. One way is the WHO and in that case anything above 14% is normal, I believe. The other is called the Kruger scale and in that case I think it has to be above 4 or 5%. So, I don't think your DH's is that bad with his count as high as it is. I would get a second opinion, I think IUI might be an option for you, at least before you head down the IVF road...how long have you been TTC.

If it gives you hope my DH has a low count, average motility and low morphology...as low as 2% on the kruger scale and his count has been as low as 3 MILLION sperm and 36% motility at one time. The highest it has ever been tested at was 48 million with 50% motility. And we have still managed to conceive naturally TWICE. The first time took 6 months, the second time we tried for 14 months and it ended in m/c, so we've been TTC #2 for 2 years now. AND I am only 27 but have diminished ovarian reserve. I have age on my side but my FSH and AMH are low. My point is, MFI really, really sucks but nothing is impossible. With a count as high as your DH's even with low morphology I'm sure he has alot more good swimmers than my DH.

Thank you wishfulgal. Again, I love these stories of success and I hope that I can eventually help someone else.

We have been trying for 9 months. 5 months of that I have been using opk and 3 months of clomid with trigger shots. We are taking a month off of the meds if I an not prego now - and deciding what to do next. I sure hope we don't have to make any of those decisions.

Good luck to you and your ttc #2. I hope your angel soul gets to you soon.

hi there, i dont usually post here but wanted to share our experience.
My DH had a 2 % morphology. he had a varicocele, but we chose not to have it fixed.
with his morphology, my endo and one tube blocked with scar tissue from my endo, we were advised to go the IUI route. after 2 failed attempts we finally conceived naturally a few weeks later.

i really hope you get your BFP soon!
