Hi Ladies,My husband took Andro gel for his low testosterone. We went to a urologist and they told him to stop using it and start Clomid. He takes half a pill every night before bed. He just had an SA and NO SPERM present He has been on the Clomid for 2 1/2 months. Is there any hope that in a month, he will have sperm? DH has a daughter from a previous relationship, she's 18.

My husband was the same. He was on testosterone replacement therapy for four years before we went to a urologist. Before we were just going to an endocrinologist and he was telling us to just wait until the testosterone started working. It wasn't until I did my own research and found that taking testosterone lowers sperm production and was probably a big cause of my husband's azoospermia. His levels were so low that they skipped clomid and went straight to hcg. He was on that for I believe six months with no change so they added gonal-f. I think since your husband was put on clomid it must mean that his levels aren't too bad and there's a good chance it will work out. Don't be discouraged, however if there is still nothing after only being on it for three months. It took nearly a year for my husband to start making sperm again. Another year after that before they were healthy enough to use and even then we had to do ivf. As I said, though, hubby's levels were pretty low to start.

Well, my husband was actually on testosterone (the Androgel) for about 14 months, then stopped last year because we were going to do IVF. Something happened that prevented us from doing it, so he went back on it for another year. So, he's been on it for a little over two years. When we saw the urologist this year, she just told him to stop the testosterone gel and put him on Clomid. He was on half of a pill every OTHER DAY for a month, went in and his testosterone levels were still on the low side, so she started him taking it EVERY DAY. One month later, his levels went up to around 500 something, which is an improvement from a month prior, which was in the 200's. He just started taking a multi-vitamin... hopeful that in 20 days when he goes back for another SA, that we see some sperm (that will be the 3 1/2 month mark on Clomid). All the info I have seen says that most men see a return in sperm around 3-4 months (when coming off of testosterone). There was also a study that I saw online about men and Androgel. They put 158 men on Androgel for ONE YEAR. Almost ALL of them had azoospermia!! CRAZY!! It is like birth control for men.

Thank you for responding and I am glad you became pregnant

My little girl wants a sister so bad.... She's 7 1/2 years old. Just to be pregnant one more time, would mean the world to me

I have been reading everyone’s stories for a long time now and I just wanted to share my journey with everyone to give a little hope that hard work does pay of and help where possible.

My husband and I have been trying for a baby for around 3 years now. After a year and a half of trying we decided to speak with a doctor. Being so young (I’m 26 and he is 24) we didn’t really believe there would be a problem and then the dreaded semen analyst results came back;

Count: 7million
Motility: 0
Morphology: 0

These results weren’t just ‘bad’ they were seriously awful. As you can imagine we were pretty devastated. The urologist found it pretty hard to believe there were 0 motile sperm so had us repeat the test and once again the results were the same.
Our urologist examined my husband and after some extensive blood work they realised he doesn’t produce enough testosterone. It was decided that he would take Clomid everyday, change his diet to all fresh fruit and vegetables and take a cocktail of vitamins. Most will know that Clomid in general is used for woman and some DRs/ urologists do not like men to take it as it is not FDA approved.
So this was a year and a half ago. It has been a very long, expensive journey (why is it fresh organic food is roughly 3 times the price?) but yesterday we had our first follow up appointment since 2013 and the results have improved dramatically, they are still low in regards to what a ‘normal’ count should be:

Count: 17million (up 10million from before)
Motility: 18%
Morphology: 2%

We still have a long journey ahead of us, but this means we know longer need to consider a donor when the time is right to proceed with IVF and now we have hope that naturally there is still a possibility. The urologist has recommended freezing his sperm which we will look into. Also his bloods had dramatically improved and in time with the Clomid helping produce the testosterone this should hopefully increase his numbers more.

Below are some of the changes we made:
  • . He doesn’t smoke and rarely drinks
  • . 2/3 litres of water a day
  • Switched to decaf coffee
  • . He started putting a cool pack on his testicles where possible
  • . You can buy specially designed underwear (very helpful when you are on the move or at work) -Snowballs
  • I would recommend using Pressed (available on Amazon) this protect the sperm through its journey
  • the urologist expressed its very important the male orgasms first and then the woman to follow (us woman act as a vacuum as he pleasantly put it!)

Vitamins:
Vitamin C
Vitamin E
B12
Selenium
Zinc
Folic Acid
Maca Root
Royal Jelly
L-Arginine
L- Carnitine

Foods I tried to incorporate everyday which have added benefits:
Salmon
Broccoli
Brazil nuts
Sesame seeds
Almonds
Red pepper
Mackerel
Eggs
Mushrooms
Tomatoes
Pomegranate juice
Natural organic yogurts
Organic chicken
