I wanted to send a PM to a friend who gave me the name of this site to tell her I had joined but I get an error saying I do not have permission to send a message. Is there a time period I have to wait?

Some of the features are disabled for new members. Once you have ten posts you can use the private message system so you just need to post a few more times.
