Hello there,

I'm new to this site but am desperately looking for reassurance so if anyone out there can help (!). I have been trying for a 2nd baby (we are the proud parents of a wonderful 5 year old) for 3 years now. Along the way I have suffered 5 miscarriages - 4 were resolved by first trimester D&C's.

After some rather controversial immune treatment I am now 17 weeks pregnant (The furthest along I have got apart from my son)....but having spent rather too long on google I have now got myself petrified that I will suffer an incompetent cervix due to the D&C's. My doctor is unconcerned as he said it's not such a traumatic dilation when it's for a miscarriage rather than an abortion. Despite this I have insisted that he keeps an eye on cervical length through scans (though currently we are doing this just once every 3 weeks). He was against putting in a preventative stitch (which is often done when IC is diagonosed) as he explained this can have it's own complications and as I have not actually been diagnosed this would be a bad idea.

I've scared myself silly with reading all the tragic stories online and it seems that even with checking the cervix can open without warning.

Has anyone out there had multiple D&C's and then gone onto have a successful pregnancy with teh cervix holding up all the way through

Hope someone out there can help - this fear is ruining my pregnancy.

Hello Elliel. I'm so sorry that you have had such a difficult journey leading to your pregnancy. I have never had a D&C, but there is a board called "Pregnancy After Loss" that you could go to. Many of the women there have suffered multiple losses and have had at least one D&C. They will be able to help you and offer you much needed support as women who are going through the same thing. There are also DDC's (Due Date Clubs) where you may find somebody with similar experience. I wish you the best.
