I don't know if this has ever been mentioned before, but in the boards like Midwest mommies.. etc, maybe in there there could be subforums for each state... Just a thought

so its easier to meet/chat with people in the same area

That would be something that the board host(s) would have to ask Admin for. So if you want to ask them about it or post a poll asking what the other midwest mommies think then the hosts can ask for them.
