So I tried to upload photos earlier today and its asking me for a url. Why can't I just upload from my computer? I have a macbook so could that be the reason?

You're not doing anything wrong. We don't allow uploaded photos on JM. You will need to upload your photos to a photo hosting site like photobucket.com. You can set an account up at photobucket for free. Then all you need to do is copy and paste the url or you can use the IMG code. You need to have 10 posts before you can post pictures though.
