This started for me yesterday evening. If I log out EVERYTHING marks as read. Otherwise, nothing marks as read and the "go to first unread" isn't working properly for me either. I'm sure I've got something wonky on my end, but I have no idea what!

That's odd. I wonder if there is something in your User CP settings affecting it? The first suggestion is always to clear your cookies and cache as JM is a complex site and tends to work better if you have. Perhaps one of the mods or admins will be able to tell you more, good luck!

I have this happen from time to time and usually clearing your cookies will fix it.

I think my computer was just being spazzy. Cookie/cache clearing didn't help but a complete reboot fixed it. W/e, I'm just happy that I don't have to wade through 11 pages of old posts to get to one new one now Thanks y'all!
