I noticed recently that when I log on, I get a little bar at the bottom of the screen with a box for contacts, where you can IM other people, similar to the one on Facebook.

Does anybody know what this is and when it started? And how would one go about adding contacts?

It was added a month or two ago. To add friends, click on the "gear" looking icon (all the way at the lower right). It will open the options screen. Simply click "Add more friends" and it will redirect you to the page where you just type in the usernames that you want to add

I know that this starts for members if you reach 500 posts. I JUST reached my mark...now what do I do? I currently see nothing coming up.

Nevermind....it comes up at 501 posts. Duh!!
