I looked in the FAQ, but didn't see my answer. I am, obviously, very new. Other boards that I belonged to you had to have a certain number of posts to "see" everything on the site (not private threads, etc). Is it the same here?

Yes, once you have ten posts you should be able to use almost all of the features. There are a few features like our instant messenger that require 500 posts but you can use the private message system, search feature, view and add signatures, once you have ten posts. Sometimes there is a delay so if you can't use everything yet just try again in about an hour or so.
