How can you tell if your LO has a dairy allergy? Lexie has really red, dry, chapped cheeks, eczema patches all over, and is very gassy.

I am thinking I might have to give up dairy, and I know nothing about that. Anyone have any info or insight for me?

The eczema patch on JP's face and some really green, mucousy bm's are what identified the allergy for us. Once I cutout all dairy, both disappeared. But I think the eczema is a big indicator.

We didn't have the eczema, we had extreme constipation. It carried through the use of Lactaid as well, which is how we knew it was an allergy vs. intolerance.

People confuse intolerances with true allergies. A lot of children have a lactose intolerance due to an immature digestive system. It usually resolves in early childhood. Given those symptoms, I would cut out dairy. You can't know for sure if it's working until you give it at least 2 weeks.

^^I agree. We had to see allergists and get things ruled out to know for sure that this was an allergy instead of an intolerance. We have tried adding things back slowly, about every 6 months, to no avail.

You should think about cutting it, and know that it takes a long time to see results. You may see the gassiness ease pretty quickly, but the other issues may take quite a bit longer.

Kaisen had lots of diarrhea which resulted in bad butt rashes when he drank regular milk and had too much regular yogurt (Gerber yogurt was fine). We switched to Soy milk and he hasn't had any problems since.
