I think Ryder is a GREAT name....

...If you're a little yellow truck, a wannabe porn star or a character on a cheesy soap opera....

OK, I'm not trying to be a smartalec here, but these names are just SO cliche, and to be different doesn't take THAT much creativity. Like, don't try so hard.

Just a guy's opinion.

Tony, Jack and Vinny????
I'm having a great day, sittng here, rubbing my wife's belly, feeling our daughter kick wondering why people insist on being so trendy. I think the name you pick shouldn't be a name you like, because it's not your name. It should be a name that describes the type of person your child becomes. Hence, a name like Eggbert is ALWAYS a nerd. We are naming our daughter Veruka Nine. It's unique, exotic, and Veruka Salt is a good band and a little princess from Willy Wonka, and Nine because it's my wife's stage name (Bridget Nine).

Seriously, Jack is cool, Cash, if you want something very different, or Alex, maybe...

Actually, I have to agree (slightly) with HipKat. I went to high school with a boy named Rider and he was always getting, "Hey, Ride-Her"....

That's not to say it is a bad name (hey, Kate Hudson used it) but you did ask for thoughts so there you go.

Congrats on your baby boy.

Here's my rule of thumb - take a look at yourself, and then at DH. If either one of you could pull off the name, then your son could too.

For example, I think the name Augustus is awesome - regal, imperial, historical, a flat-out powerhouse name.

But me, five foot nothing, and DH, five-nine, neither of us particularly distinguished in anything, well I'm guessing the apple wouldn't fall far from the tree. And he's go from Augustus to Gus about five seconds into first grade.

So if you have the cool factor to pull of Ryder, then by all means, go for it !!!

LMFAO--I call my girls Veruka when they are being particularly abnoxious!!!!!
A little princess???? You ARE kidding right? She was a BRAT or have you forgotten the good egg, bad egg scene. Maybe you should watch Willie Wonka again. And while we are attacking others' choices who the heck wants to be named after a number? " Well I was named after that horrid girl in willie wonka and my mum's stage name--she might of been a pron star--kinda sounds like it huh?"

I like Ryder I'm not to bothered about Grant though

At the end of the day, it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks. Its your baby. If we all liked the same names then the world would be a boring place

Go for it!

Wow...sounds like a pretty heated topic. That is the first time I ever read anything negative on any of these boards so I'm pretty surprised. Everyone has their opinions, I guess some just express them nicer than others.

Good luck with your baby and I hope you find a name that fits him just perfectly.
