AMELIA
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, German
Pronounced: ə-MEE-lee-ə (English), ə-MEEL-yə (English), ah-ME-lee-ah (German)
Variant of AMALIA, though it is sometimes confused with EMILIA, which has a different origin. The name became popular in England after the German House of Hanover came to the British throne in the 18th century - it was borne by daughters of George II and George III. Another famous bearer was Amelia Earhart (1897-1937), the first woman to make a solo flight over the Atlantic Ocean.

WDYT?

Love it! But I am afraid it's becoming quite popular, and that's no good. At this point I'd probably consider it for a middle name.

it's very old fashioned but I have already heard a lot of young girls with that name and one of them goes by "mia" which is cute

I'm not a fan. To preppy sounding, if that makes sense.

I used to love it but not anymore. It's the name of a condition/syndrome that my Angel son had. It causes the complete absence of limbs. In his case, all four. And other defects. Tetra-Amelia syndrome Or Congenital Amelia.

I used to really dislike it because it reminded me too much of the children book series "Amelia Bedelia"... but now I am really starting to like it because the association isn't as strong. It's a really pretty name and I love the nickname "Mia".

I love it! And the Amelia Bedelia books connection is a positive thing for me-- I loved those as a kid! I just wish it wasn't getting so popular
