I'm trying to find a "Mary" name to use other than Mary. Mary is my Mom's name and one day I would like to name a daughter in memory of her, since she has passed. However, Mary doesn't go with all of my other more "uncommon" names. So what do you think of the name Marigold? Here's what behind the name says...

MARIGOLD
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English (Rare)
Pronounced: MER-ə-gold, MAR-ə-gold [key]
From the name of the flower, which comes from a combination of MARY and the English word gold.

Also, any other Mary name suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

No really a fan of the name either. The only name I can think of though is Maria which is the spanish form of Mary. Good luck in your decison making though.

I don't like Marigold, sorry. I do like that you want to honor your mother.

I'm not a fan of hyphenated names, but it is another option for you. You could do something like Mary-Beth, Mary-Ann, Mary-Kate, etc. Or you could do Mary as the first name, a different middle name... and call her by her middle name? Or just use Mary as the middle name? Or name her Mary and call her Mary?

There are many different names that you could use to honor Mary.

Well, I really like it. I don't think of it as a Mary name as much as I think of it as a flower name, but it is a lovely way to honor your mother, and I'd love to see it used. It's so pretty and uncommon, and it's sweet but doesn't sound wrong on an adult.

I'm not a fan of Mary-Ann type names- I like some double names, but prefer Mary on its own to the hyphenated ones.

Wow thanks to all who have responded!

Caz- thanks for that incredible list! I'll have to take my time to read through those names and see if there are any that catch my eye!

As for the hypenated names...I have always liked Mary-Bella/MaryBella/Mary Bella, but now with the trend of sticking Bella on the end of things it might all be a bit much! We'll see though.

My only other option that I like other than Marigold and MaryBella is Merry Mistletoe. I know it's a bit "out there," but my Mom had a strong love for anything Christmas (we decorated our house, won best home of our town a few years in a row...26,000 lights, the whole shebang)! So Merry Mistletoe would incorportate her name along with her love for Christmas. But then again, I'm not so sure....

I'm just looking and hoping to find a name that is cohesive with the other names I want to name my children. Ya know!? Hmm....guess I got lots of time to think of it.

It's nms, but I had a great aunt named Marigold except we all called her Aunt Goldie. She was gorgeous.
