I wouldn't care if a name was 'old fashioned' unless it was something unattractive like Gertrude. No one will think of Maria as being old fashioned if they meet a little girl named that.

Maria used to be pronounced like Mariah in English. So, you could still use that pronounciation without the H if you wanted.
