Hi all!
I am new here so hope you don't mind me jumping in, we have just started TTC our first baby and are thinking about names already lol!
Our favorite name so far for a boy is Oliver but I seem to be hearing it everywhere lately, do you know any little Oliver's? We want a name that is heard of but not super popular.
Also which do you prefer, John Oliver or Patrick Oliver? He'd go by Oliver either way. (John Patrick was the name of my late brother)
Thanks very much, i'll get back to you with girl names, so far we have nothing.

i LOOOOVE Oliver. One of my top names. I don't care about the popularity, because its such an over all fantastic manly classic name.
My pick would be Patrick Oliver.

I don't know any boy or grown-up Olivers! I love the name too.
I wouldn't let the popularity of a name deter you from using your favorite name. It doesn't make sense to me to pick a name for my child I like less than my favorite name only because my favorite name is more popular.

Thanks everyone.
Popularity is just very important to us, we don't want our child to have the same name as millions of other children, I think if Oliver gets anymore popular we will fall out of love with it anyway.

I LOVE the name Oliver (S/O hates it though ), I don't know anyone named Oliver-- teens, grown ups, or babies; I've only seen that name on this board. I'd go with it if you truly love it!
I like Patrick Oliver, btw. It has a pretty flow.
ETA: When I was born my name (Allison) was in the top 10-20 names but yet my entire life I've only ever known one other Allison.

I understand your not wanting to use a popular name. I'm the exact same way! That being said, Oliver is not very popular around here and it's a nice name.

This is a name thrown around a lot on the forums but I've never actually met an Oliver. I love it though! Great choice.

I like Patrick Oliver. Love the way that flows. I haven't met or heard of any Olivers in my neck of the woods.
I completely understand the whole common name thing. My name is Jennifer and when I was in 1st grade he had 15 Jennifers in 2 first grade classes. Almost half the girls were Jennifer. Everyone was shortened and had their last initial added. Jenn G, Jennie F, Jennifer K etc

I like the name Oliver and have lived in 4 states and never met one. If he's going to go by Oliver, I'd suggest making that the first name and your brother's name the middle. Is there a reason you want him to go by his middle name? It'd just be such a hassle correcting teachers and everything. I love Oliver John And Oliver Patrick sounds nice too. Good luck!

Thanks everyone, I think we are going to keep Oliver for now, I just hope it doesn't get super popular.
Joni - because it is a family tradition plus I think John Oliver sounds much better than Oliver John, basically all the males in my husbands family go by their middle name including him and they have never had any problems so I think it'll be fine.
