Male, and usually pronounced ahn-hel (Spanish pronounciation).

I don't know why it is so popular for girls, why not use Angela, Angeline, Angelina, Angelica or Angelique. There are so many actual female names out there, and yet people always take over the male ones for girls.

I always thought of it as a girl but since that show Angel came out a while ago with David Borezono I see it more as a boy now.
