It's really grown on me recently.. WDYT?
Do you think boy, girl, or both?
Would you change the spelling to fit different genders? I hate "y" in a boy's name, so I can't imagine I'd spell it Layton.

Girl.

I don't like it. It's easy to mistake it for "Lee-ton."

And when she tells someone that's her name, she'll always have to spell it. So it can be pronounced wrong based on the spelling, and spelled wrong based on the pronunciation! I like names that pass both tests.

I leaning toward unisex with this one.

As for the name itself... I'd give it a 6.5/7 out of 10.

*Some points taken off because of gender confusion (I don't care for that)
*Points off because there are a ton of letters for a two syllable name. (Leyton or Layton would cure that I suppose but you don't like y's). I also just don't care for how it looks written out.

*Bonus points for rarity

Overall, I wouldn't cringe if I heard it but I wouldn't think twice about it either.

LOVE the name and think it's very unisex....I can totally imagine it fitting on either gender. I like the Leighton spelling best for a boy or a girl.

I used to like it for a boy but now I prefer it for a girl... just because I wouldn't use a name that is unisex for a boy.

Same here. Though I'd never use it because of all the girls with the name now.

I like that's it unisex still.. because I want the next baby to be a surprise, so I could just pick Leighton and run with it.

To me its all girl, though its not a name I like, because of Leighton Meester from Gossip Girl.

I really like it and I see it as unisex. I knew a guy named Leighton before (spelled this way) He used to work with my little brother who has autism. Leighton was great with him.

And I'd spell it Leighton for either gender.

(I love the idea of picking a unisex name for a surprise! We've considered that if we have a 3rd, it could be a surprise named Jayden. )

Posted it in the other name threat, but Leighton is a city in PA pronounced Lee-high-ton. I like Lay-ton, but wouldn't name a kid that while living here cause it'd get butchered constantly.

To me, it sounds like a boy name but the spelling, in particularly the first part, "Leigh" looks like a girl spelling.
