So I've been through an enormous list of girls names, interestingly enough, most starting with E, for no particular reason. DH is VERY picky, and did not like 99% of the names I suggested. So finally we agreed on:

Evelyn Claire

What do you think? Too old, somewhat modern? Opinions please... Thanks

Evelyn was ranked number 54 in 2008 as per the SSA. I don't think it's old fashioned, and neither do a lot of people. I think Evelyn Claire is lovely.

Evelyn is the name my best friend has picked out for her baby.

I'm glad you guys like this name. I started to think I would not be able to find a name that the both of us liked. For some reason he hates all the names I suggest, and he only suggest joke names, like really-uggly-would't-that-be weird-to-name-our-child-that" kinda suggestions.

I wonder if your SO/DHs are like that too.?

My DH is the same way I think Evelyn is both an older name and a modern name, if that makes sense. I think Evelyn Claire is very pretty.

My DH isn't quite like that. He vetos a lot of the names I love, and sometimes suggests off the wall ones. But when he does suggest a name, I actually like it. He picked Alexandria, which was supposed to be DDs name, and ended up being her middle name. And the next baby (if it's a boy) will be per his suggestion also.

Evelyn does sound old fashioned to me. It sounds like a grandmothers name. But that is a popular trend right now... old fashioned names are coming back into style. On the other hand, I'm loving Claire right now. It's so classy and pretty. I think Claire is a name that will never be dated.

It's a beautiful combo. Like Melissa said, old-fashioned names are IN nowadays. It was popular in the early 1900's but Evelyn is big again. So, your baby Evelyn would meet others her age while growing up.

How would you pronounce Evelyn? I really like it with the long E, makes it a little more modern, but both ways are pretty. Evelyn Clair is a lovely name.

I would pronounce both Es (Evelyn)the way you pronounce the E in Egg, with the first syllable the strongest one. So it would be something like ā-vā-lyn. Isn't the way it is normally pronounced?
