What do you see as the future of the name Ethan... It sounds like it will age so well, and sounds like a strong name, but goodness #3?!

I literally have days till baby arrives.

It's been popular for a while..

in 2000 it was 25
2001 it was 17
And it's been in the top 10 since 2002

I don't see it dropping drastically within the next few years, or even the next ten. Boy name rankings aren't as volatile as girl name rankings - or so it's always seemed to me.

I definitely think it ages well.. If someone said the name Ethan I would not be able to pinpoint what age that Ethan would be. With that said, when I was first pregnant with my daughter I really liked it but now it just seems boring. Obviously the appeal is still there for a lot of parents, though. I think if it will really bug you when you meet other Ethans, then don't use it. But if that doesn't matter to you, you definitely should use it~! Popular names mean they are well liked.

Thanks for the input!

I am really on the fence about a lot of names! Nothing set in stone yet... Poor kid!

Its not very popular around here as far as I can tell. (it was #18 in NJ) You can go here to find out how popular it is in your state: Names by State

I like it and think it ages well :]

I think it's a "new classic". It's strong, masculine, and well-liked. If you love it, use it! If the popularity really bothers you, you might consider the slightly less popular but similiar Evan.

I love it!! I will probably end up having a nephew named Ethan since both SIL's are in a race to see who has a boy first so they can use that name! It is a great, masculine name... but being one of several Sarah's in school... I tend to stay away from too popular names!

It's also very popular around here. I work at an elementary school and I have 3 Ethans at work right now.

I wouldn't be supprised if it gets up to number 1 soon... so that would make me weary. However jut b/c a name is popular wouldn't rule it out for me.
