Change in Popularity

This SSA page shows which names jumped/dropped the most in the last year.

Are there any that surprise you?

I'm surprised these jumped up in popularity:

Alvin
Romeo
Keagan (I like the name but have NEVER met one)
Johan

Danna
Amari
Cara (wonder why it jumped up all of a sudden? Jon & Kate + 8 maybe?)
Fernanda

I'm surprised these dropped so much in popularity in just one year:

Leland
Tobias
Jadon (since the other spellings are still popular)
Scott

Alissa (ditto Jadon)
Hayley
Meredith
Savanna (ditto Jadon)

Chloe (with the C) has been at the top for a while, so I'm not surprised the alternate spelling jumped up so dramatically - people want the name but want their child to be set apart from all the other Chloe's. Nice idea.. but it obviously didn't work.

I'm kind of surprised about Kane - I've never met someone who walked on two legs with that name.

London, Harper, Miley, and Marlee/Marley all make sense - Disney Channel for the win, and then the golden retriever.

I don't think any of the top ones are too surprising...

Romeo is probably thanks to the Beckhams having a son named that and moving to America.

Jacoby jumped the most?! I don't know anyone else in person who has this name or plans on using it on a baby. I think Jacoby Ellsbury on the Boston Redsocks is the reason for this. He joined the team mid 2007 and since then, the name's been steady rising.

I don't think there are any real surprises for me - perhaps if *all* variations of the spelling of Jadon had fallen..

yay both my sons names went down in popularity(although low on the list anyways) israel and Malachi

Malachi's mn ezekiel went up and so did the name we would use if we ever had another boy (caleb) but oh well

my daughters mn stayed the same which stinks because its number 2
but her first name sofia went down one

the name i like for another girl went way down(carolina)

Oh you're probably right! I don't know anything about baseball so I had no idea.

I wish there was a way to gather all the same names with different spellings together. Sometimes I find that frustrating that Jadon will move down but Jaidon and Jaydon moved up. So unless you check out every spelling you could still end up with a very common name.
