So we're not TTC #2 yet, but I'm already thinking about names. I have what my husband refers to as a "mild obsession" with names.

I tend towards classic/untrendy names. I recently discovered the name Seren, for a girl, and I am totally in love. My grandmother's name is Esther, and I'd like to do something in tribute to her. I don't lke the name Esther, so I started looking for other names with the same meaning. Esther means Star, and so does Seren, in Welsh I believe.

So I totally LOVE this name, and my husband flatly vetoed it. He says he reminds him of a posion gas and/or a Star Trek character. I think it's just a beauitful name.

Anyone agree with me? Disagree? Anyone think of a simliar name I might use?

I always think of the sarin nerve gas that sounds the same. The sound is nice enough but the association prevents me from liking it.

This site has over 50 names that are the names of stars or mean star. I prefer many of them to Seren.

I like it, but it does make me think of the gas. =/

Estrella (es-treh-ya) is one of my favorite names, and it means star (it's the Spanish form of Esther).

Oh good one Kes. I prefer Estrella to Seren.

Is it pronounced Sa-ryn?

It reminds me of Soren, which to my knowledge is a boy's name (at least, I knew a boy named this).

Some good "Star" names, from thinkbabynames.com:

Star(r) -- you could always just use the word itself, lol
Asta
Celina
Danica
Estelle
Mary (or any variation thereof)
Maya
Stella
Tara

There are lots more listed, but these are the ones I like best.
