I love the name Daphne but any time i mention it people wrinkle up their noses and say something about scooby doo. The Hubster even laughs and says "I'm not naming my kid after a cartoon character" so do you think Daphne will ever be able to escape the association?

I honestly never think about the cartoon Daphne when I hear the name. I didn't/don't care for Scooby Doo that much, so I didn't watch it often as a child.

I absolutely ADORE the name Daphne, and if we weren't so strict on using Celtic-only names for our children, I would absolutely name a daughter Daphne.

I would say "I'm not naming my daughter after a cartoon character, I'm naming her after the Greek nymph whom the god Apollo was in love with, and then was turned into a laurel tree." lol

I associate Daphne MUCH more with Greek mythology than I do with Scooby Doo. I'd absolutely use it.

I really love the name Daphne! And I don't think of Scooby Doo at all when I hear it (but then, I never watched Scooby Doo). Actually, if I were to associate any cartoon character with this name, it would be Daffy Duck.

Daphne is a cute name, and Scooby Doo is totally generational (i.e. no one your daughter's age will remember anything about it). I say if you love the name, then go for it.

I also never connected Daphne to Scooby Doo, if anything, I think of Frasier more. I like it, it's cute!

I do think Scooby Doo but it doesn't really bother me.

I think it's a generation thing. For people of our generation, they might always associate Daphne with Scooby Doo. No one in your DD's generation may even know of the connection; but then, retro cartoons are always coming back into style too.

If you love it, use it!

I also wanted to add that there is a little Daphne around this board somewhere if I remember correctly. She's a doll and I don't think anyone would think Scooby Doo if you saw her..

More importantly... I think Daphne fits perfectly with the style of your other children's names. Too bad your hubby doesn't care for it.

I never think of Scooby Doo although I never watched it much. I always think of Daphne from Frasier. But I still think it's a beautiful name!

I think more of Daffy and Daphne Duck when I hear Daphne.. But even if I didn't have that association, there's just something about it that I don't care for.

Daphne was at the top of our list and I loved it. DH said it reminded him of Scooby Doo. But then Phoebe reminds lots of people of the character on friends. WHO CARES! The name Daphne is AWESOME. I say go for it.

I love Daphne and honestly don't connect it to Scooby Doo (never watched it growing up though)

DH doesn't like it because he thinks she'll get nicknamed/teased with Daffy.
I am really pushing for it though so I hope he changes his mind!

I don't associate it with Scooby Doo, and more importantly, I doubt the kids in your daughter's generation will. I'd wouldn't let that stop me from using it.

If your husband won't go for it, what about Ariadne, Ianthe, or Phoebe?

All Scooby Doo to me! My 9 year old nephew is obsessed with Scobby Doo (has been for 3 years!) and it's on cartoon network all the time so, if it bothers you, I wouldn't bank on it being a generational thing and assuming the association will go away anytime soon! If it doesn't bother you, use it!

I think it's a beautiful name, and even though I got the Scooby Doo reference I would use it if I love it.
