What do you think of double or hyphenated (first) names?

Mary Kate
Mary Rose
Mary Jo
Lilly-Anne
Lily-Kate
Billy Bob (just kidding)
etc...

That's all I can think of right now.

I don't like them hyphonated, but I don't mind just a double first name. I think Anne Marie is really cute. think it works well for Spanish names, too.. Ana Lucia is beautiful.

The only one I can think of that I've ever liked is Leah Kate (a name in Jordana's PR) But actually... I grew up with a Bill Bob. For real. William Robert is nice but Bill Bob ..... No. lol

I like Mary-Kate. I would never use it because of the Olsen twins association, though. Thinking about it more, that's probably why I even like it! But that's like naming my daughter Angelina..

I think that a lot of them are really cute, but I wouldn't do them as a double first name -- I'd just have one name be the first, the other the middle, then call the child by both.

I don't usually like them but Ana Lucia is beautiful. Some of them work very well together... others not so much.

I think it really depends on the names.... if they are traditional/common double/hyphenated first names, I really dislike them, but if they are more unique then I don't mind... I prefer double/hyphenated middle names

Yes, I think Lily Kate is my new love. I want a future DD to be named Lily; but I want the name to have a little more substance. And, I think the Kate on it gives it that "I can be taken seriously in any professional field" feeling to it.

I typically have not been a fan of double names (fn or mn). But, I watched the tv show Brotherhood. The grandma's name is Rose, her daughter's name is Mary Kate, and Mary Kate's brother, Tommy, named his first daughter Mary Rose in honor of his mom and sister. I thought that was so cute!

And, up until then I had always associated Mary Kate with the Olsen twin; so I was not that big of a fan. It's a nice name; but it would always have a celebrity association. But, after seeing a tv character with the name, I associated it with her and I actually like the name. Still, I'm not a big fan of Mary. So then, Lily Kate came to me. I've never heard the combo before; but it's not like it's strange or anything.

And yeah, I forgot about the name Ana Lucia. I really liked that name on the LOST character. Beautiful.

I like Lily Kate, but personally I would name her Lillian Katherine, if you're concerned with having a professional "take-me-seriously" name, and go by Lily Kate. I love it.

It's so funny you would say that. We found out last Thursday that my SIL is unexpectedly expecting #1 and she has Lillian picked out (again). I think at one point she had reconsidered and liked another name but now she is back on Lillian. And then, I found out on Saturday that she has Katherine picked out for the mn.

Can you believe that?

I'm trying to find the perfect Lily first name to go with mn Kate or Katherine and my SIL has just about the same fn and mn picked out! Ack! We just started TTC and I do think I'm already pregnant (although I do not test for a little while longer). But, if she is having a girl, she beat me to it by 4 weeks exactly.

There are very few I can say that I like and none of them that I can think up off the top of my head.

Honestly, I think Lily-Kate is a bit nicknameish to be a professional sounding name. It's cute, but not professional.

And that totally stinks on the 4 weeks thing! Maybe your baby will be two weeks early (still full term and very healthy of course), and hers will be two weeks late, and you'll get it first!

I'm not a fan of the 'hyphen'. I guess I don't see the point. Anne Marie just looks way more polished to me than Anne-Marie and it gives the child the option of just Anne (if she preferes that) in the future.
