lol ok... So last night my husband wrote this down and asked me how I would pronounce this "name".

I will hold back how it's pronounced after some of your responses...

He asked this because the wife of a guy he works with is an elementary teacher at one of the local public schools here. She has a student (female) who's name is Le-a. The teacher got a call from Le-a's mom complaining that everyone (I mean *everyone*) is mispronouncing her daughter's name and it's upsetting both Le-a and her mom.

So take a wild guess. How would YOU pronounce "Le-a" if you saw it?

Leah. Is it somethign stupid like El-ee-uh or something? If she wanted something that wouldn't be misprounced she shouldn't have gone with that name.

LMAO.

Well I was guessing "LEE-uh" or "LAY-uh".

But you're right (mostly)! It's "luh-DASH-uh"!

I about died laughing when my husband told me. He said the woman called and said "Everyone keeps pronouncing my daughter's name wrong! It's not "lee-uh" or "lay-uh"! The dash isn't silent! It's "luh-DASH-uh"!!" She was really angry about it too and acted utterly shocked and ticked off that people were pronouncing it wrong.

Wow. lol.

Hmm. Well I'll tell my husband about that. But his co-worker's wife is an elementary teacher here and she swears that's what the girl's name is.

Maybe this woman heard that story and decided to name her daughter that, lol. I seriously hope his co-worker was just pulling his leg though! hahaha

I've heard that before too, lol. Too bad that technically wouldn't be pronouced that way, anyway.... It's a hyphen, not a dash
