We are trying to come up with a middle name if we have a girl. We would like to incorporate MIL's name into the name somehow since DD has my mom's middle name as her middle name.

MIL's name is Shauna Lee. We are NOT using Shauna. DH and I agree on that. That leaves us with Lee. But with the first name we are considering, the name is too gender neutral. Also, DH and I both have L as a middle initial and DD does not. DH sad DD may feel left out if he, I, and the new baby all have L as a middle initial and DD does not.

So, I came up with Malee for a middle name (it means Jasmine in Thai). This is a combination of my mom's first name (Margit) and MIL's middle name (Lee). Someone on here suggested Marlee, which I really like, but DH doesn't.

So what do you think of Malee? How would you pronounce it?

I'd probably say May-lee if I saw it, but Mah-lee works. I think some people will think it's an alternate spelling of Molly, unless you put an accent on the end and make it mah-LEE.

I think Maleah would be a combination option, though less direct on either parent name.

This is tough...at first glance I'd probably pronounce it Muh-lee (like Emily without the Em)....but I would also consider pronouncing it like Molly or May-lee.

I would pronounce it muh-LEE if I saw it. Another option... Shaylee. It would use portions of MIL's first and mn. You could also spell Lee "Leigh" to make it look more feminine.

Thanks for the Shaylee suggestion. I hadn't thought of that one.

I don't want to spell the middle name Leigh because I have a nephew named Leigh.

I pronounce it muh-LEE. I'm not too worried about the pronounciation as it would be a middle name. But I still wanted to see if others pronounce it the way I do.
