This one has been on my radar recently and the Nymbler challenge below brought it up again. Any thoughts?

Prn'd Ay-mon, means wealthy protector, prosperous protection, Blessed Protector, also spelled Eamonn, form of Edmund or Edward
Quote:
Is the Irish form of Old English ead "rich" + mund "guardian", and implies "guardian of the riches." In more recent times the name has been given to honor Eamon De Valera who was President of Ireland for 14 years, the maximum allowed, from 1959 to 1973.
I also wonder about the possible rise of this name to succeed Aiden, as it sounds similar in style, is also of Irish and Gaelic origin

The thing that comes to mind when I see this name is the one hit wonder singer Eamon. Who had that break up song "F*** It" a while back. It's not a bad name though.

I like the name, but would worry about it being mispronounced all the time.

I used to like it because I thought it was a great alternative to all the -Aiden names & I also like Irish names.. but DH disliked it and turned me away from it.

Okay this is crazy....I was lurking around yesterday and saw this name...then I was thinking about it last night. I log in today and it's the first name I see

I like it, however I slightly prefer Aamon or Ammon (am-mon).

I think sometimes we think with the same mind! I like Aamon too- I think on first sight, I'd pronounce it Am-on as in "I am going to the store" and with the other, I'd prn Ay-mon

^ and this is totally ok! Go look at my post in the Nymbler thread to see my Twilight name conspiracy theory that keeps popping up on me when I search names on there.

They're plugged into your brain!!

Seriously though...maybe it is a marketing thing...kind of like if you were to go browsing the internet for "Quileute legends" and then hop on JM, you might see ads in the sidebar for Native American artifacts and stuff.

Just sayin'

I love Eamonn. It's actually my cousin's name (he's in his early 20s) and I've never heard anyone pronounce it wrong!
