I heard this name on a Lifetime movie the other night. WDYT?

It's a hard 'G' like 'Gale' or 'Gate'

Would you pronounce it Gi-Ta (Gee-Ta) or Git-Ta.

I would pronounce Gitta with 'git' and Gita to rhyme with Rita.

I don't like Gitta, Gita is ok, maybe as a nn for something like Brigita?

I'd say it Gee-tah.

Makes me think of the Bhagavad Gita. It's often referred to as just Gita. Sacred Hindu scripture. I have a few copies.

Gita means "song" in Sanskrit and is often used as a female first name in Hindu cultures.

For those reasons, I like the name. I never thought of using it as a nickname for Brigita, but I like that. Our next daughter will be Brigid, and while it's a different sounding "g", I still am fond of Gita as a nickname for it (especially since we incorporate Hindu spirituality in our lives). So thanks for making this thread! I couldn't think of a nickname I liked for Brigid, so now I have one.
