i'd rather have the full name and give the option of the nick name. my sisters name is Abigail and she HATES the nm Abbey. my daughters name is Emelia and she'd rather go by Mia, which i dislike...but, it's her choice.

I prefer the full names - that said, I do like nicknames, which is why even though my DD is Gabrielle, I call her Gaby. I chose Gabrielle so that when she got older she WOULD have a more 'mature' sounding name to go by, if she chose to

My children's given name would be the same as their calling name with few exceptions. So if I wanted to name a girl Katie that is what would be on her birth certificate. Jack I consider to be a name in it's own right. If a child hates their name they can always choose to call themselves something else which may not even be related to any part of their name at all. I think your name is something you grow to like in general. Kids with unique names will want common names while kids with common names will want unique names.
