I've lately taken an interest in the meanings behind names ... does anyone else consider this?

Does the meaning of a name impact your opinion of it?

When naming your child, did you take the meaning into consideration?

Do you have a favorite name meaning?
A least favorite?

A few meanings I like:
Asher: fortunate, blessed, happy one
Michael: who is like God
Imogen: beloved child

Names I like with meanings I dislike:
Eloise: wide
Oscar: deer-lover

I don't care about name meanings. it's not like someone is going to meet your child and say "oh, your name is Oscar? do you really love deer?"

I honestly rarely look at the meaning of a name. If we are really considering it and will probably use it then I might look it up.

Does the meaning of a name impact your opinion of it?
Not really...unless it was something really horrible. I knew that Blaise meant "lisp; stutter" and it didn't bother me.

When naming your child, did you take the meaning into consideration?
See above.

Do you have a favorite name meaning? A least favorite?
Nope.

I just like what looks & sounds pretty to my ears really. I don't really consider meaning at all. I don't think there will ever be a situation in their life that meaning will come up. It never has with me. But I have flipped through a baby book or two and come across a name that means something really neat and thought it was a better name slightly because of that...

Do you have a favorite name meaning? A least favorite? The only name I thought had a really nice meaning was Mattea which means "gift from God" but we liked the name previous to the meaning.

Does the meaning of a name impact your opinion of it?
YES. The meaning of the name is extremely important to me when choosing for my own children.

When naming your child, did you take the meaning into consideration?
Absolutely. Look in the meaning behind the name thread to see the story behind my son's name. When I read through baby name books, I tend to read meanings first, and then glance at the names when I find a meaning that I like.

Do you have a favorite name meaning? A least favorite?
Least favorite: Mary: sea of bitterness I just could not name my child any derivative of this name, even though I like the SOUND of several of the names that come from Mary.

Favorite: I have several
Elisha: God is my salvation
Naomi: beautiful, gentle
David: Beloved
Eliana: God has answered

Does the meaning of a name impact your opinion of it?
It does, I try to match things together and I know all my friends/exes/family and myself have all had discussions about the meaning behind our names and some of us had pretty amazing meanings...some of us did not and we weren't happy. So yes, it's important to me.

When naming your child, did you take the meaning into consideration?
I'm currently about to TTC my first, so it hasn't come into play yet, but yes absolutely I will take the meaning into consideration.

Do you have a favorite name meaning? A least favorite?
I have a lot of names with meanings I like and quite a few I've come across that I don't. I can't remember any I strongly disliked but I do like Aubrey: "Elvin king".
