when someone else (whether you know them or not) names their child the same name as your child?

No, not really. Though I might feel differently if someone who I did know and was due at the exact time as me named their child the same name.

It wouldn't bother me at all... UNLESS it was another family member or someone we saw frequently IRL. I think it'd bug me if they copied the full first and middle name combo too. But that's not likely to happen in my case... so no... I don't mind if other people out there choose the same names we do... it just means we have good taste!

of course not! obviously I think my children have the best names in the entire world and I'm offended by those who do not agree

just kidding, but in all seriousness, I like it when people I don't know IRL name their babies the same names as my kids, but if a friend or family member did of course I would be miffed.

in fact, I picked the name Rebecca for a future daughter when I was 8. my sister of course knew for years that I loved that name and when she was confirmed she chose Rebekah as her confirmation name. it just bothered me. of all of the biblical names out there she had to choose that one? ugh

if it was someone in my family or someone I was close friends with then yea, a little bit. But if it was just an acquaintance than no I don't think it would.

Nope! Obviously if a close family member named their son Josiah, I would find it kind of weird. BUT, I love the name enough that I'm totally willing to share with almost everyone else

If a family member did, that would be weird. Especially because our names are not so common. Someone else, it wouldn't bother me, I'd probably take it as a compliment!

Not at all on here but if it was a friend or family member I might be a bit annoyed but also complimented!

Well since I have no offspring of my own, I'll just say that it would tick me off if somebody intentionally took my names that I fully intend on using someday in the not-so-close near future.

ETA I would be ticked if someone I knew very well took my names, but someone I don't know so well, I would be flattered. Very flattered.

Yeeesssss! It drives me crazy. I do not take it as a compliment- I'm very protective.

My DD and DS have very common Biblical names (Grace, Caleb) so no, I can't be offended if someone else on here or IRL used the same names. I would be annoyed if a family member used the entire name: first, middle, last. I think the only time I would get really mad is if I was pregnant, announced the name we chose, and someone else that I know IRL has their baby first and names the child the same thing. So, I guess as long as my child gets the name first I'm OK. LOL

Glad I'm not alone

I try not to feel this way as I know it's not rational to assume that no one will ever use your names....but I try and choose somewhat unique names and it does bother me when someone uses the name It also makes me feel extra guilty and hypocritical if the name I choose is the same name as someone I know's child. None of this applies if it's a family name though.

I am sooo glad I talked my SIL out of using our fave girls name for my niece...i had a fear she was going to and then she mentioned it and I bawled and bawled, but thankfully she didn't!!
