The top boy name on my husband's list is Elijah, nickname Eli.
while I like Eli, I am not a huge fan of Elijah. We have an Isaiah and I find the two too close.

What other names can result in the nickname Eli?

Elliot is actually my top pick. (cant decide between one T or two) but I didn't know if it was too far of a stretch for Eli.
I'm also hesitent because I've seen Elliot used on girls lately and while I like unisex and boy names on girls I like "boy only" names on boys.

We are using Eli for our boy name...just Eli though it's not going to be a nickname.

I do like Elliot. Elias would also work.

I think Eli works fine as a full name. I love it actually! But we have a one syllable last name so I like the flow and look of the name written down with a longer first name better.
My other kids have between 6-9 letters in there first names so Eli looks out of place amongst them. But our top running girls names are both only 4 letters. (Ella and Lily-and not liking any fullnames for those right now either)
Argh, I frusterate myself. lol

I like Eli. It doesn't have to be a nn, unless that's what you want.

Eli is cute, and I love Elijah! I have a friend who just named her baby boy Elijah and calls him Eli.

My other name choice for the nickname Eli would Elias.

Elijah is also a name we contemplated, with the nickname of Eli. But I also have an Isaiah and feel that Elijah is just too close. Another name could be Elias. That would have Eli as a nickname.

Eli is my DH's and DS#2's mn. I like prefer it alone to any of the choices, but I see what you're saying about the length of your other kids names.

thank you everyone for the opinions. DH is still stuck on Elijah but we have lots of time to come across more names that he might like as well.
