We will find out Jan 11th , but I have a very strong feeling this baby is a boy. We have already picked a girl name but we are stuck between two names for a baby boy. I did a poll in my DDC and the result was almost 50-50 so I need your help! Which boy name do you prefer?

Edited to add: After following the link for the article about top baby name trends, I did a little more research about Cohen. I knew the meaning of the name but did not it's significance in the Jewish community. I would never want to offend anyone choosing it for our baby. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

I voted Cohen!

ETA: I don't know the meaning behind Cohen, but do recognize it as a Jewish surname. Is there more significance to it besides being a Jewish surname? Cause if not I would say it's safe to use.

I like Cannon, especially spelled Canon. I know there are people offended by Cohen. I hear it would be like naming your child Priest. It really all depends on if that bothers you or not, or if you'd care if people got upset.

We had considered Cohen for this baby, but I didn't want to offend anyone either. It's still DH's favorite though.

Thanks for the input ladies. I am in love with Cohen but was really surprised about how it can be offensive to some. Some things I read said it's really strange to give your kid a surname as a first name. I don't think that it's strange at all because it seems like it's pretty popular right now. I also read that some equate it to naming your child Jesus or Muhammed. I know it wouldn't be an issue in our family/circle of friends but I would hate for it to be an issue when he grows up. I guess I'll have to keep thinking about it...I do have 5 months after all.

Ashley- Our girl name is Emersyn Reese or Emersyn Olivia (or Emerson- I'll have to do a poll about the spelling and the middle name) I'm so indecisive...

I personally like Cohen Reid....although I like the uniqueness of Cannon. Both are great choices

I would not use Cohen based on what I've read about the name...although I can see the appeal. Cannon is ok, but it does feel rather violent to me (after all it's a piece of artillery/weapon). Both names are nice *in theory* but the meanings sort of spoil them.

Are you SET on these two choices? IF not, how about:

Callum Reid
Keaton Reid
Easton Reid
Kenton Reid
Clayton Reid
Lennon Reid
Holden Reid
Everett Reid
Collin Reid
Hudson Reid
Tristan Reid
Ashton Reid
Beckett Reid
Conan Reid
Griffin Reid

As for your girl name...I would spell it EMERSON. The Y just looks tacky to me! I've always loved this name and we had the name Emerson Kate (Emmy Kate) on our list for years. I like Emerson Olivia better than Emerson Reese. That way you have one unisex and one feminine name - rather than two unisex names.

I agree. Reese is cute and I really like it (we are going to use Rhys for a mn if it's a boy), but double unisex names aren't appealing to me either.

I like Canon Reid the best of the two boy names. I agree with the pp about spelling it Emerson and then using Olivia so that you don't have two unisex names.

I have heard of people being offended by Cohen being used as a name. It's really not like naming a kid Jesus or Muhammad, as both of those are names. Cohen is more like naming your child Priest.

I wouldn't use it myself, out of respect... it's not just a random word or name, it has a specific meaning to many people.

I like both names, but I like the way Cohen sounds more. I think as far as finding the name offensive, it just depends on your circle?
