I would pronounce Elena ee-lay-nuh and Lena lee-nuh. I think if you want the lee sound in the middle, Lena is more likely to be pronounced correctly. Although, both lend themselves to mispronunciation since there is more than one "correct" way to pronounce each. I think if you want something not too similar to Elaine, Lena is the better choice since it starts with a different letter.

Ditto! I have a friend Elena, and it gets pronounced Uh-lay-na or Ee-lay-na.

I think Lena is a better choice since I think most people pronounce Elena (eh-lay-nah), plus it isn't similar to Elaine.

I pronounce Elena eh-lay-na, and Lena could be either lee-na or lay-na.

Elena and Elaine are pretty similar, so if that's a problem for you, I'd use Lena (though usually, I prefer that as a nickname).

Lina would also work, if you want a name pronounced lee-na.

I love Lena, its gorgeous pronounced either way. Personally I pronounce it Ley-nah. I like the pp suggestion of spelling it Lina if you are wanting to get rid of any mispronunciations

To me, Elena = Uh-lay-nuh and Lena = Lee-nuh.

I prefer Lena of the two names, I think its darling, and goes nicely with your sons names.
