Given some extended discussions on the other boards that I frequent, I think that DH and I have managed to narrow down our boy's name list quite a bit. Some info:

1) My older son is Charles Robert, and we call him Charlie
2) The middle name HAS to include Earl somehow (unfortunately). That's a mandate from DH.
3) We're looking for a first name that's masculine, traditional, yet not too common these days.

Please vote for your favorite combo! Any feedback is appreciated!

I love William and James, but I voted for William as I prefer its nickname (Will).

Well, Roger is certainly a bold move. I can't say I like it, but it is definitely interesting.

James Earl is James Earl Jones.

William Earl is very handsome.

I voted for James. Sure, there is James Earl Jones, but how often are you going to use the first and middle names together? Plus, just so you know, William was number 5 in 2009, so I don't think it fits the bill of "not too common."

I voted for William. I love that name and I think it goes well with your son's name. You could use Will OR Liam for a nickname too!

With James Earl, my mind wants to automatically add Jones. I want to like Roger, but I keep thinking of the slang word/verb (been watching too many British comedy shows lately, I think).

My vote goes to William Earl. I think Will and Charlie would make a great set.

Roger is the least common name on your list. I think you'll regret not using it if you don't since I think you mentioned you've had that name picked out for a long time now!! I don't like James Earl. William is my 2nd choice. Good luck Molly!!

Love William! If you were going to call both sons by their full names instead of nicknames, I might shy away from Charles and William since it reminds me of the British royals. BUT... I love Charlie and Will together! Don't go with James... James Earl Jones is just too famous. I'm not crazy about Roger, and prefer Earl on its own as a mn, rather than trying to hyphenate it. You'll notice it is my son's mn too... he was named after my Dad who was Earl J III. He passed away when I was pregnant with Josiah, so even though I'm not crazy about the name Earl, the family significance was enough for me to use it!

Yeah, Roger is definitely our top first-name choice, and if it weren't for us having to stick 'Earl' in the middle, we'd be going with Roger no problem. I LOVE just 'Roger Burton.' But DH insists on including Earl. I just can't figure out a way to pair it well with Roger.

I think we're leaning more and more towards James, nickname Jamie....

Thanks, ladies!

What about Roger Earling? It flows a bit better than Roger Earl.

William. It's such a strong masculine name that has awesome nick name possibilities (will & liam).

I like Roger, plus its the least common. I wouldn't do James because of James Earl Jones but thats a personal preference.
