I really like Lucy because of The Beatles reference. That being said, I know too many dogs named Lucy and I think the name itself is getting a bit popular.

I love Lucy, but I prefer it as a nn for something longer. I think a longer, more formal name is needed as a professional name for the person's academics and career.

Not a fave of mine, but it's fine. It has a peppy vibe to it which is nice. It does not age as well, but I guess that could be resolved by using a longer formal name like Lucille or Lucinda.
