I am due with my fourth child, a girl in a couple weeks. up until now we had pretty much been set on the name Olivia, but i recently saw it was listed as the #3 name right now. My daughters name is Ava, which is #5 on the list currently, but in the 2.5 years she's been alive i have only met/know of one other Ava. I am wondering how often you actually hear of or meet someone named olivia in the states (we are currently overseas on a military base).

Also, any other suggestions on a girly//feminine name that flows well with my other three kids: Gavin, Carter and Ava.

Thanks!

My daughter is named Olivia and I had not met one up until that point (even though it was #5 the year she was born). Since her birth, I became good friends with a co-worker who also has an Olivia (about a year younger than mine). I'm a teacher, and it's one of the few names that has not graced my classroom.

I can't think of one Olivia I know in real life, or an Ava for that matter! I say if you love it, use it no matter what....There's a reason it's popular, it's a beautiful name.

I meet them pretty often, but I run across a lot of kids between doing the library programs, making cakes, and church.

If you love it, use it, but in my experience, it is a name that is VERY likely to have an initial attached (I have an Olivia P. and an Olivia R. in my current reading program).

As popular as Olivia, Ava, and Isabella (my DD's name) are, I've met very, very few.
Olivia's = 0
Ava's = 1, co-worker named her DD this
Isabella's = 1, at DD's school

Isabella's name hit #1 last year. It might be because we're in the Midwest (versus NY, CA, and TX where it's especially popular), but we only know ONE other Isabella in the last 5 years. We've heard it being called in the store for another Isabella twice.

So, I wouldn't let popularity stop you from using a name you love. And, I think Gavin, Carter, Ava, and Olivia make a very good sibset.

As a teacher, I have met more than my fair share of Olivia's, Sophia's, and Maddy's (Madison, Madelyn). BUT, I have yet to have an Ava! I say if you love the name, that is all that matters. Others that are girly:
Charlotte
Camille
Aria
Annelise
Emmeline
Sarah
Kathrine
Linnea
Karenna
Clarissa

I know a bunch of Olivia's, its really popular in our area. I know you said you are overseas but if you know where you will live when you come back you can use this and see how popular it is there=> Popular Names By State. Olivia is #2 in NJ where I live, in California its #10.

suggestions to go with Gavin, Carter and Ava:
Lila
Nora
Evelyn
Ella
Stella
Lucy
Violet
Mia

My twin daughters are in the 2nd grade and between the two of them they know at least 3-4 Olivias in their grade. I think the name really came back into fashion over the past 3-6 years. I am a big L&O: SVU tv show fan and have always loved that name due to the lead character on the show, but it's out of the running for me with this baby because it has become so popular. Unfortunately I learned that same lesson the hard way once before - my ex-H and I picked out the names Emma and Madeleine for the girls simply because they were pretty, classic and fit well together. However, we were completely ignorant to the fact that Emma was massively popular (apparently due to Rachel's baby on "Friends") and all of the versions of Maddie (Madison, Madeline, Madelyn, etc.) were trendy as well. I still think my daughters' names are beautiful but it does stink that they pretty much always have to follow their first name with a last initial because there are multiple Emmas and Maddies in their classes and activities. Regardless, I say it's best to go with what you love!
