Expecting daughter #2 in July. I would like her to have a name sooner rather than later. I would prefer a less common name (though every name I like I check with the SSA baby name lists and they always seem to be top 100). We don't use nicknames-if I wanted to call the child Katie for example that is what will go on the birth certificate. I've gone through the baby name book many times but maybe one of you will come up with something new to me.

I don't have a big long list like other posters, but I think you should consider the name Prudence! When I have a girl (which I thought I was going to, then Jude came along, sigh) I was set with naming her Prudence. I think it is really pretty, and she even has a song! I don't think it is very popular (havn't checked its popularity yet) but I only have heard Prudence in the song of which I became a fan of it years ago. Good luck

Here are some less common names. I sorted them into names that are in the top 1000 but not the top 100, and names that aren't in the top 1000 at all. Sorry if I repeat anything that's been posted.

Not in the top 100:
Amara, Amira, Anastasia, Arabella, Aria, Clarissa, Elisa, Eloise, Greta, June, Leona, Lucia, Mara, Marina, Matilda, Mira, Moriah, Nia, Nina, Robin, Rosalie, Serena, Talia, Viviana, Zara

Not in the top 1000:
Adele, Alessia, Amaia, Annora, Antonia, Audra, Aviva, Bronwen, Bryony, Calista, Cordelia, Corinna, Daria, Delia, Dorothy, Emmeline, Georgiana, Gwendolen, Gwyneth, Honoria, Mattea, Olessia, Oriana, Romilly, Romina, Rosalind, Shira, Tallulah, Tamsin, Thora, Trista, Zola, Zora

That actually has been one I considered. Haven't mentioned it to my husband as I just don't see him liking it at all. I heard that name on McLeod's Daughters (Australian show).

My daughter is Karin Renee (pronounced Kuh-RIN, not Karen). Their names do not have to be similar or sound right together or anything like that though. Some names we both like are Charlotte, Vanessa, Jane, Mary, Anna, Lola, Amelia and Natalie. Some names I love/he doesn't like are Cadence, Ruby, Liesel, Greta, Savannah, Ellowyn, Willow, Clementine, Josephine, Annamarie, and Marie. Child will not be nicknamed but called by her given name. I like double first names or double middle names but he does not. I think he has settled on wanting the name to be Charlotte Lorraine but I'm not ready to commit to that name. It is a very good name as it will honor his grandparent's Charles and Lorraine Blakeley (he was named after that grandfather) but Charlotte is in the top 100 and I can't stand the thought of someone calling my little girl Charlie. No boys names on girls, even nicknames!

I like uncommon names that are also not made up sounding or too new age. My favorite name for a girl is Libby - but it's a nickname for Elizabeth and some people don't think it ages well, but either way I thought I'd throw it out there? Some other names I like are

(besides) Libby
Whitney
Ruby
Adrienne
Caroline/Carolyn
Ivy
Noelle
Ruth(ie)
Tabitha

Good Luck!

PS, my name is Josephine (though i am always called Josie) and I LOVE it!!! It was awesome never having another josie/josephine in my class growing up and I get compliments on my name all the time

so I'm partial to Josephine!
