The meaning is beautiful. I knew someone in college named Marni so I have a bad association unfortunately.

I really like the meaning of it! At least the one you listed... when I looked up Marni, it said it was Scottish in origin, and meant "from the sea". It also said it could be a diminutive form of Marion, which means "bitter", or Marina, which means "from the sea". Marnina has the same meaning as the one you listed, so I'm guessing that is where whatever book/site you got your meaning from made the connection. I feel like it is more of a nickname than a full name... I would be tempted to use Marina and then the nn Marni/Marnie. THAT would be perfect with your sibset, given that both your girls have longer names with a nn!!
